With gas prices fluctuating up and down and the global "green movement" gaining momentum, you may be searching for natural bio fuels as an alternative fuel source. Because these resources are renewable and sustainable, there is no harm to the environment. So why wouldn't you attempt to find and use these sources? Here are seven natural sources for bio fuels that you might not have ever heard about.
1. Corn fibers and kernels: The product known as ethanol is made of corn fibers and kernels. It is currently used by some automotive companies. Basically, by letting corn get moldy, ethanol will result. New studies are underway to determine if we can use the by-product from milling corn as bio fuel as well.
2. Coconut oil: Refining coconut oil is widely used in the Pacific region of the world. When it is mixed with 2:1 with regular diesel, the oil becomes a sustainable source for diesel run engines.
3. Sugar: Refining sugar results in the by -product known as ethyl alcohol. This is the by-product that can be mixed with gasoline as an alternative fuel source, not the sugar on its own.
4. Jatropha Oil: This plant, which can be grown and found in India, is currently being harvested as an alternative to diesel fuel. There is a smaller oil refinery being built right now with the permission of the Indian government.
5. Cheese waste: Through the fermentation process of vegetables and fruits, other by-products can be created for this type of bio waste fuel. Newer technologies have created a cheese waste process that can be used as a source for fuel as well. This is a truly renewable resource because it will save producers of cheese millions in one year with these at one point, disposable costs.
6. Wood: You would be surprised but you can burn woods to create a bio fuel. You can create a certain type of engine, referred to as a gasifier, and this will burn the wood allowing the liquid by-product to collect in the engine. Scientists are still experimenting how one should break down the wood. There are many theories up in the air revolving the use of termites and Shiitaki mushrooms to initially dissolve the wood.
7. Soybeans: The refining of soybeans can create a sustainable bio fuel as well. This type of fuel is currently in use by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Midwest and Public Works Department as well as the Naval Surface Warfare Center. Navel power locomotives also use it both for their engines and to power each locamotive air horn.
All seven of the natural plants and herbs above can be used as an alternative to fuel. They are called bio fuels and all of them will make your gasoline last longer, prove cheaper in the long run, and burn much much clearer, thus saving our environment from harmful pollutants and gases.
